Frances Ramsey Greenwell, 85, of Elizabethtown, entered eternal peace and joy with Christ Jesus, Sunday Oct. 15, 2023, at her home after a long, private battle with cancer. Frances was originally from Bloomington, IN where she also graduated from Indiana University as a physical therapist. In her early life, she enjoyed horseback show riding, singing in choirs, fashion, travelling, and spending time abroad with friends. She moved to Louisville to work at the VA Hospital where she met her husband of 57 years, Dr. Bernard Greenwell. They married in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France. The Greenwells settled in Elizabethtown, which was close to Dr. Greenwells family farm in Flaherty. She worked in his office before becoming a full-time homemaker with their four kids. Frances was a long time member of Severns Valley Baptist Church as well as a supporter of other organizations such as Helmwood Heights PTA (earning Kentucky Colonel and City of Elizabethtown recognition), Hardin-LaRue Medical Auxiliary, EHS Band and Dolphin Swimming to name some of them. She loved Elizabethtown, Pentwater, MI, and the USA, and had an admiration for people and cultures all over the world. In later years, she spent many days with her cameras walking the natural and residential areas of town while getting exercise band accomplishments and photographing the changing seasons and interesting sites. She devoted her life and love to her family. She exemplified loyalty, duty, perseverance, discipline, and generosity. She was able to spend her final days with all her children, and visits from her grandchildren, extended family and friends. The Greenwell family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Hargis and staff and Dr. Gary Vitale and staff for their incredibly dedicated care of Frances. Also, we would like to thank Hosparus Health for providing such wonderful care during her final months. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Gail Ramsey of Bloomington, IN; and two brothers, James (Carol) Ramsey of La Crosse, WI and Charles (Janet) Ramsey of Holland, MI. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Bernard D. Greenwell of Elizabethtown, KY; brother, Dr. John (Lyn) Ramsey of Albion, IN; four children, Meredith (Warren) Amyx of Franklin, TN, Charles (Kimberly) Greenwell of Elizabethtown, KY, Dr. Andrew (Megan) Greenwell of Sandwich, MA, and Dr. Jennifer Greenwell of Auckland, NZ.; as well as seven grandchildren, Chloe (Meredith) Amyx; Hadley, Aubrey, Hudson, and Declan (Charles) Greenwell; and Iain and Anne (Andrew) Greenwell, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at the Chapel of Lifepoint Church (old Severns Valley Church building) in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Burial follows in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home and continues after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
