Edith J. Henderson

Edith J. Henderson (94) was reunited in heaven with her husband, James Hilton Henderson, on April 22, 2024. There was a joyous celebration in Heaven with family and friends who had been waiting for her arrival. She had a peaceful walk to that heavenly place and was ready to leave this Earthly world. Edith was born July 31,1929, in a two bedroom house sitting on top of "Chigger Hill" East View, Ky. She was the last of 11 siblings of Elisha and Effie Jeffries. She attended the one room schoolhouse which still stands in Stephensburg and high school at Lynnvale High in White MIlls. Edith then met the young WWII Navy Sailor, and love of her life, James Hilton Henderson. They were married for over 70 yrs before his death in 2020. Edith and Hilton moved from Eastview to Elizabethtown where she worked at the Purple and Gold Grill and the Etown Laundry. From there, she "car pooled" to Fort Knox where she worked at the Laundry on Post until she moved to the Financial Dept of Payroll and Procurement. She worked in this department at Fort Knox for over 40 years until retirement. She knew where every"penny" went! That same couple who came from a simple and humble beginning, drove to and through 48 states while attending square dance conventions. They collected friends from all over the nation. They were fortunate to be able to winter in the Keys at Venture Out. While in the Keys, Edith attended many social evenings which included dancing, attending block parties, fishing tournaments, card games, swim exercise and Bingo. They lived the "Jimmy Buffet" style of living to the fullest! Edith loved Bingo and partying, but more than that she loved to watch her precious great grandchildren playing baseball, softball, basketball, award activities, school functions , or just reading books and playing. If they were involved in anything , Mamaw Henny was one of their best cheerleaders! Edith leaves behind 3 children, Kenneth (Wanda), Marcia Kaye Gersovitz (Steve), and Sondra Johnson. She had 6 grandchildren, Hope Duncan (Brooke), Kristin Willett (Scott), Matthew (Julie), Alyssa Grunnet (Colin), Kendra Blair (Tim), and Josh Henderson (Samantha). She leaves behind the joys of her life and light of her eyes 9 great grandchildren. Hayden and Carter Willett, Mia and Lucas Johnson, Larry and Lucy Grunnet, Kennedy Blair, Ezra Henderson and Hilton Duncan. She also leaves a brother in law Gene Henderson, nieces Katherine Brawner (Willard), Barbara Malabad (Pat), and nephew Steven Jeffries . She also leaves so many dearly loved friends and neighbors from Venture Out, College Heights and especially those at Willow Creek Assisted Living. Visitation is 5-8 pm on Thursday April 25th, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. The funeral will be at 9:00 am on Friday, April 26th at Brown Funeral Home. Burial follows at 10:30 in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
