Richard "Dick" Striegel, Jr.

Richard "Dick" Striegel, Jr., 85 of Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Baptist Health Hardin. In loving memory of our Papa whose life was woven with threads of love, laughter, faith and cherished family memories. Born and raised on Taylor Blvd in Louisville, KY, he was surrounded by a large, tight-knit extended family. The tales of his cousins'; shenanigans are etched in the fabric of family lore and remain as vibrant and cherished as ever, passed down through the generations creating a solid foundation from which his family has grown. His education began at Holy Name Catholic School, where his Catholic faith first took hold. Determined to continue his Catholic education, he worked to finance his own attendance at St. X, a testament to his resilience and unwavering determination. Graduating in 1956, he embarked on a noble journey of service, enlisting in the Navy in 1959 with a deep sense of pride and duty. Stationed in Washington D.C., Dick served with distinction in the Ceremonial Honor Guard, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment. His dedication to his country was unwavering, an example of his selflessness and patriotism. After his honorable discharge, he pursued higher education at the University of Louisville, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. His love and support for his Louisville Cardinals spanned his lifetime. Amidst his academic pursuits, fate had a grander plan in store. It was during his tenure at Brown- Forman Corporation in 1963 that he crossed paths with the love of his life, Elaine, in a serendipitous encounter that would change the course of their lives forever. Their love story blossomed into a beautiful 59-year union, blessed with three children, Kathleen, Rick, and Karen. In 1968, Dick embarked on a distinguished career as a Research Chemist with Lorillard Tobacco Company. The company's transfer to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1985 marked a new chapter in their lives, where Dick and Elaine embraced new beginnings and forged enduring friendships in their community. Upon retirement in 1998, they returned to their beloved Kentucky, where they built a house full of love and family in Elizabethtown. Over the next 26 years, their home became the cornerstone for their ten grandchildren, who reveled in the same bonds of closeness and camaraderie that Dick cherished with his own cousins. His legacy lives on in the laughter of grandchildren, in the cherished memories shared by loved ones, and in the enduring love that binds our family together. Dick's life was a symphony of love, an ode to the values of family, loyalty, and faith. May his spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
