Mary Elizabeth Strickler

Mary Elizabeth Strickler, 85, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at the Jewish Hospital Health Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a long-term member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. Mary held several positions in accounting and bookkeeping at Swope Motors and Interstate Auto Supply, worked as a paraprofessional at G.C. Burkhead Elementary School and became Lunchroom Manager at the then new Hardin Central Junior High School for over ten years. During this tenure, she proudly worked on Title Nine projects in various committee positions. Mary went on to become an Inspector and eventually a Budget Analyst for the Director of Engineering and Housing for the Department of the Army at Fort Knox where she retired with over 18 years of service. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1956. Mary was also an avid member of the local farming community as she and her late husband went on to raise beef cattle in Hardin County for more than 40 years. She loved animals, especially her beloved companion dog who will miss her so very much. Mary was vivacious, fun-loving, never met a stranger and was a loyal friend. She enjoyed going to lunch with a group of precious friends from her high school glory days once a month for many years. Mary and her daughter Deborah did everything together. They loved to go to church, to dinner and going shopping. They were the absolute very best of friends. Mary was Deborah's biggest cheerleader and championed every goal Deborah set her mind and heart to achieving. Mary was loving and fiercely protective of those she held dear. Deborah will love and miss her Mom until that day she sees her again in heaven. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Frank Randell Strickler who passed in 2014 and by her parents, Roy Lush and Elsie Lush. Mrs. Strickler is survived by one daughter, Deborah Strickler (Kelly), of Elizabethtown. The funeral is at 2 pm Friday, March 1, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Pastor Emory Riley officiating. Burial follows in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is from 12 noon to 2 PM Friday, March 1, 2024 at the funeral home.
