William E. "Bill" Buckles, 91 of Glendale, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at his home. He was a native of Glendale, served on the USS Cabildo with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and retired from Civil Service where he was a firefighter and Assistant Chief at Fort Knox. Bill was a member and Elder of Glendale Christian Church, a member of Glendale Lions Club and was a proud farmer. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta Sue Thompson Buckles; a grandson, Joseph Meredith; his parents, Albert Lee and Eva Owens Buckles and siblings, Marion, Owen, Robert, John, and Roy Buckles, Wanda Knox and Evelyn Shelman. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Linda Nett Buckles; three children, Sheila (George) Meredith of Leitchfield, Kim (Rick) Whobrey of Elizabethtown and William Jason (Nicole) Buckles of Glendale; two step-children, Harold Troy Nett of Elizabethtown and Melinda "Mindy" (Willie) Davis of Glendale; one sister, Mollie Jane Bell of Louisville; seven grandchildren, Amy Vaughan, Kelly Clemons, Jonathan Meredith, Nicholas Whobrey, Grant Whobrey, Emerson Buckles and Tessa Buckles and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 12 noon at Glendale Christian Church with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue Wednesday from 10 to 12 pm all at Glendale Christian Church.
