Teresa Houston Shumate

Teresa Houston Shumate, 67, of Upton passed away peacefully January 31 at her home after a battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Avery Rae Harned, who was likely waiting at Heaven's gate asking what she's cooking for supper and if she could make her cookies. Her Father, Hubert Houston and stepmom, Jean Houston. She is survived by her husband of nearly 46 years, Barry, who showed a true example of "til death do us part." Her mother, Florine Langley; two daughters, Amy Shumate McClure and Teri Thomas, who were lucky to have an amazing mother. Two sons in laws, Andrew Thomas and Nathan McClure, who she spoiled as if they were her own children. Her grandchildren, Kayleigh and Clayton Thomas, that brought her absolute joy. She is also survived by a sister, Shelby Bilbrey, and brothers, Matt Houston, John and Richard Langley. As well as a host of extended family and friends. She spent the last 26 years working at Elizabethtown Hematology and Oncology, where she was a smiling face and helping hand to patients fighting cancer. Teresa was a pillar in the Hardin County extension and 4-H programs, selflessly giving her time, guidance and love to so many over the last 30 years. She loved to sew, and her quilts are a true labor of love that she enjoyed sharing with her sewing friends. She enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving, her farm animals, camping and spending time with family and friends at the lake, and was an amazing cook and baker. She was a member of First Christian Church in Elizabethtown and enjoyed being with her Partaker Sunday School friends. The funeral is 11 A.M.
