Alice Wright Mull

Alice Wright Mull, 85, of Elizabethtown, KY, died Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Hillcrest Village in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She was a native of Hampton, VA, and a former English teacher, having retired from Bardstown High School. Alice was born in Hampton, VA, on July 5, 1938, to Ray and Elsie Wright, the second eldest of five siblings: Milton, Carol, David, and Lois. She received a Bachelor's degree in English from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg and a Master of Arts in Adult Reading from the University of Louisville. She met her husband, Dick Mull, in Hampton, VA, and they married on September 2, 1956. She had her first child, Katherine, at 20, and second, Keith, when she was 22, in Greenville, SC. While Dick completed his education and served as a Chaplain in the United States Army, she also lived in Louisville, KY; Fort Hood, TX; abroad in Mannheim and Munich, Germany; in Brooklyn, NY; and eventually settled with her family in Elizabethtown beginning in 1975. Alice served as a leader in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and was a highly active member of Living Faith Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY. She loved to travel with her husband and family to experience new places and adventures. She was passionate about playing, teaching, and listening to classical music: she played five instruments, including the piano, violin, viola, organ, and clarinet. She also loved gardening, cooking, and volunteering in her community. She embodied an independent, "do-it-myself" spirit and committed her life to education, serving others through her faith, and her family. In her autobiography, she includes the Ulysses quote: "I am a part of all that I have met." She is inextricably a part of those closest to her in addition to the countless lives she has touched in her 85 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dick Lee Mull; daughter, Katherine Gallaugher Simonides; and parents, Ray Herbert and Elsie Southwood Wright. She is survived by her son, Keith D. (Jamie L.) Mull of New Albany, IN; four siblings: older brother, Milton (Peggy) Wright of Minnesota; younger sister, Carol Connor of Williamsburg, VA; younger brother, David (Mary) Wright of Charlotte, NC; and youngest sister, Lois Wright, of Williamsburg, VA; four grandchildren, Megan K. (Joshua R.) Polanin and Keigan T. (Kathryn A.) Mull of Washington DC, and Kiersten and Nicholas (Miranda) Gallaugher of Tulsa, OK; and five great grandchildren, Daniel, Drake, Eliza, Zadie, and River. A celebration of her life will be held at Living Faith Baptist Fellowship in Elizabethtown on February 3, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., preceded by visitation at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be expressed online at brownfuneral.com.
