George Oscar Kolley, Sr.

George Oscar Kolley, Sr., 77 of Elizabethtown, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Booneville, IN to Jesse Willis and Sylvia Sanders Kolley and attended a one room schoolhouse at Flatwoods. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a plumber at Fort Knox for 37 years. George was a member and former Deacon at Valley Creek Baptist Church. He loved hunting and learned how to bow hunt from his best friend, Ronnie Strange. He enjoyed watching the Kentucky Wildcats and loved his grandchildren more than anything in this world. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Deloris Goodman Kolley; two children, George O. "Jr." Kolley (Tina) and Alisa Nichols (Scott) all of Elizabethtown; one brother, Roger Kolley (Frances); two sisters, Betty Teague and Myrtle Jones; a special brother-in-law, Larry Goodman and his wife, MaryAnn; eight grandchildren, Marlee Camp (Tyler), Sarah Bigler (Jacob), Kira Nichols (Taylor), Megan Erdman (Gerard), Onnica Nichols, Austin Nichols, Patrick Nichols and Makenzi Nichols; one great-granddaughter, Kylee Elizabeth Camp; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday, January 11th, 2023 at 12 p.m. Noon at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 12 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hosparus Health.
