Toney Head Jr.

Toney Head Jr. passed away peacefully at Signature HealthCare in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on December 27, 2023. He was surrounded by his son David, daughter-in-law Debbra, and members of his caring medical team. Born in Monroe, Louisiana on January 28, 1927. Toney, the youngest of four children born to Toney and Sallie Head, spent his formative years in Monroe, but began splitting time between Monroe and living with his elder sister Lula in St. Louis, Missouri. Lula helped Toney transfer from Monroe Colored High School to Sumner High School in St. Louis, where he graduated with honors. Toney elected to enlist in the military where he served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Major in the Army Reserves. During this time, he married Mona Brinson and out of that union they welcomed five children into their home, Anthony (1951), Stephany (1955), David (1956), Christian (1962) and Mark (1963). Funding saved from his time in the military afforded him the opportunity to work on his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland, which he completed in 1960. Toney later entered graduate school at Syracuse University and obtained his Masters of Business Administration with a focus in Financial Management in 1966. His Civil Service career flourished, as Toney reached the grade of GS18, the highest rank attainable at that time, and was appointed to the Office of Management and Budget. His skill, business acumen, and hard work earned him a position within the Executive Office of the President of the United States under Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter. After retiring from Civil Service he started his own highly successful consulting company, T. Head and Company, Incorporated (THI). Upon retirement from his company, he continued his travels, seeing much of the United States while driving cross country and spending considerable time in Seattle with his sister Lula and family.Toney then relocated to Kentucky to enjoy his golden years with his son David and daughter-in-law Debbra. Toney was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and enjoyed church attendance and activities. Time with family and lively conversation were among his favorite pastimes. He shared his wisdom and knowledge with all privileged and willing to receive. Just a month shy of his 97th birthday, Toney ended his lifes journey. His was a full and vibrant life well lived and filled with love and joy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Toney and Sallie Head; his brothers, Rufus and Arthur; and his sister, Lula.
