James "Jim" Lanz

James "Jim" R. Lanz, 80 of Elizabethtown, KY died Saturday, December 23rd at Baptist Health Hardin with his family by his side. He was born March 17, 1943, in Elizabethtown KY to parents Francis J. Lanz (Frank) and Mary Frances Lanz. A scholar and athlete at Elizabethtown Catholic High School, he then graduated with a Bachelors degree in Accounting and MBA from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Out of school, Jim worked as a corporate accountant at Dow Corning in both Elizabethtown and Midland, Michigan and then became an accounting instructor at Elizabethtown Community College. For a large portion of his career, he was a loan officer at First Federal Savings & Loan and in later years sold real estate in the Hardin County area. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin to so many. He spent countless hours at ball fields, race tracks, and other sports venues watching his kids and grandkids. Outside of his family, his greatest passion was following his beloved sports teams and discussing their recruits, games, wins and losses, as well as their imminent doom.. May the Louisville Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, New York Yankees, and Boston Celtics never lose in Heaven! Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Charlene (Tabb); three children, Jeff Lanz of Elizabethtown, KY, Mic Lanz (LeAnn) of Knoxville, TN, and Eric Lanz (Misty) of Lebanon, KY, and four grandchildren; Austin Lanz (Kristin) of Knoxville TN, Shelby Lanz of Knoxville TN, Alexis Lanz of Lebanon KY, and Noah Lanz of Lebanon KY. He is also survived by his brother Charles Lanz of Elizabethtown KY and his sister Karen Pearl of Frankfort KY. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents as well as his oldest brother, Robert (Bob) Lanz of Elizabethtown KY. The funeral is 11 A.M. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church. Visitation is from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, December 27 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and continues after 9 A.M. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, your local animal shelter, or a charity of your choice.
