David W. Curneal, 90 of Louisville, formerly of Elizabethtown, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Sunrise Senior Living in Louisville. He was a native of Madisonville, graduated in 1951 from Madisonville High School where he was a standout athlete. He was All State in Basketball and Baseball. Dave served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was the former owner and operator of Curneal & Hignite Insurance Agency. He sold insurance for over 40 years and was the past president of the Elizabethtown noon Rotary Club, the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Independent Insurance Agents. He loved golf, UK athletics, poker and horse racing. Dave was a former Deacon and Elder of First Presbyterian Church and a current member of Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Mary Curneal. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jane Gray Curneal; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Michael Gardner of Louisville and Julie and Leon Smith of Sandusky, OH; four grandchildren, Jaime (Anthony) Andretta, Steven (Amy) Brandenburg, Dustin (Celeste) Million and Tracy (Joshua) Peavler and seven great-grandchildren, Kellen and Keaton Brandenburg, Ethan and Emerson Andretta, Ava and Graham Million and Eliza Jane Peavler. A Memorial Service will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
