Charles Barry DeWitt Sr.

Charles Barry DeWitt Sr. passed away on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023. He was born on January 6th, 1928 to Joseph & Antoinette (Edna Rose) in Louisville, Kentucky. He often was known as Chuck or CB by his family and many friends. Chuck met and married Bonnie Gertrude White in 1948 and they enjoyed a long & loving marriage. Together, they had 6 children. Bonnie and son, James Patrick, proceeded Chuck in death. He is survived by his sister Patsy, daughter, Marilyn (James), “adopted” daughter Delena and sons Barry (Lana), Mark (Cindi), Greg (Jong Ae) and Matthew Kent (Jonie) as well as 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2-great-great-grandchildren. Chuck grew up during the great depression and was a teenager during World War II. As soon as he was able, he joined the war effort and was stationed in Paris, France as a medic. He also served during the Korean War. After the war he attended law school at the University of Louisville and later joined government service at the Social Security Administration where he rose to District Manager. Chuck enjoyed woodworking & hunting. Chuck was very civic-minded, was a member of the Optimist Club and was instrumental along with Fraisur Reesor and Burton Langley in starting up the Hardin County Water District #2. Chuck was a devout Catholic and attended mass at St. Louis Bertrand. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Visitation is from 4 PM to 7 PM Tuesday, July 25th followed by a short service at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Funeral Mass is planned for 9:30 AM Wednesday, July 26th at St. Louis Bertrand on 6th Street in Louisville followed by a procession to interment beside his wife Bonnie at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.
