Thelma Naomi Leary, 88 of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Baptist Health Hardin. She was a native of Burnsville, North Carolina and retired as a caretaker for Communicare. Thelma loved everyone and they loved her. She was always happy and had a smile on her face. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Merrill Leary; and one brother, Eliza McMahan. Survivors include three children, Richard (Connie) Leary of Elizabethtown, Pamela Jean Reed of Colorado Springs, CO, and Robert (Mariela) Leary of Edgewood, MD; two sisters, Rhonda Threadgill Neubauer and Cordelia May Garns, both of MD; four grandchildren, Katrina (Micah) Johnson, Daniel (Adrienne) Wright, Stephanie (Harold) Hall, and John Henry (Kayla) Reed; great- grandchildren, Jennings, Kennedy, and Asher Johnson, Brianna, Ciarra, and Daniel Wright, Madison, Montana, Mason, McKenzie, Harold, Jr., Jadelynn, Jazzmyn and John Paul and three great-great-grandchildren, Serenity, Logan, and Aeriella. A memorial service will be Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Valley Creek Baptist Church. Visitation begins Sunday after 2 p.m. at the church and continues until the time of the service.
