Nina Shumate Atcher

Nina Shumate Atcher, 93 of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Forest Springs Healthcare Facility in Louisville. She was a native of Hardin County, a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, and was a longtime member of Stithton Baptist Church where she was the church organist for many years. Nina was a longtime member of the Radcliff Women's Club and Woman's Club of Elizabethtown. She formerly worked as the insurance clerk for the Vine Grove Clinic, Radcliff Youth Services Center for Hardin County Schools, and retired from Fort Knox Civil Service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. Atcher; her parents, Steve and Iva Lillian (Nall) Shumate; and a brother, Basil Shumate. Survivors include her two children, Andrea (Bruce) Atcher of Elizabethtown and David (Margo) Atcher of Pewee Valley; one brother, Norman (Phyllis) Shumate of Vine Grove; five grandchildren, Adam (Ashley) Atcher of Elizabethtown, Brett (Trisha) Atcher of Lexington, Todd (Emily) Atcher of Louisville and Bailey and Anna Kate Atcher of Pewee Valley; five great-grandchildren, Landon, Chase, Mason, Paisley and Ella Atcher; her brother-in-law, Bob Atcher of Vine Grove; her sister-in-law, Patsy Gerkins of Ekron and several nieces and nephews. The funeral is Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Compton and Pastor Emory Riley officiating. Burial will follow in North Hardin Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and continue from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army.
