Eileen Wilmoth

Eileen Wilmoth, aged 98, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec 16, 2022. Eileen was born in Southport, Queensland, Australia on Nov 9, 1924, and was one of seven children. She met her husband, Leslie Wilmoth, while he was stationed in Brisbane, Australia, during World War II. They married on Jan 2, 1944, and Eileen came to the United States in 1946. She and Les lived in Glendale, Kentucky, before moving to Elizabethtown. Eileen was a devoted wife and mother. She was keenly interested in working with children and was one of the founding members of the Hardin County Youth Theatre. Eileen was highly active in 4-H as a 4-H leader and was also highly active in the Hardin County Homemakers. Eileen was a lifelong member of the St James Catholic Church parish where she was in the Resurrection Choir, served on the Pastoral Council, assisted with the weekly Church bulletin, prepared the Church for Mass, and was a volunteer with the St Vincent DePaul Society. Eileen was a keen angler and was always ready to cast a line. They had many adventures from going through the locks in a small boat at Kentucky Lake, catching salmon in Michigan and going out at midnight to catch big reds off the pier at Sebastian Inlet in Florida. Eileen was her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildrens biggest fan. She attended 4-H events, band concerts, horse shows, swim meets. Eileen never wanted to be left behind. She loved watching the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville basketball and football games. Eileen enjoyed going to the Kentucky Oaks and Derby and attended over forty Derbies. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Leslie H. Wilmoth, her parents, Thomas, and Matilda ODoherty, three brothers William, George, and Kevin and three sisters Dorothy, Marie and Grace, her sister-in-law, Frances Poteet and niece, Jan Byrne. Survivors include three children: Gregory Wilmoth (Cynthia) of Silver Spring, MD, Deborah Wilmoth (Paul) of Pottsville, Australia, and Catherine Basham (Ronnie) of Cecilia; four granddaughters: Cheryl Christopher (Carter) of Knoxville, TN, Channon Minton of Elizabethtown, Ashley DiDonato (Davis) of Bowling Green, Ky, and Rebecca Harman (JD) of Smithsburg, MD, and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and continue Thursday after 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
