Franklin "Frank" Black

Franklin "Frank" Eugene Black, 89, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Frank led a life filled with love and faith. He believed that by living through Christ, following His teachings of patience and understanding, was the key to fellowship and service to others. By Christ's example, Frank raised his family to be kind and generous to those around them. The joy that he brought to his loved ones was always marked by his characteristic laugh, one that was frequent, loud, and often ended in wheezing. In 1933, Frank was born into a large farming family in Ringgold, Georgia. He believed that God's beauty was reflected in the earth, and he honored this through tending the land in his beloved vegetable garden. As a career farmer, he was a prominent businessman as President of Sun Gold Egg Company, Kentucky's Pride Country Ham. He served on the American Egg Board and was an inductee in the Kentucky Poultry Hall of Fame. Through his stalwart demeanor and pragmatic attitude, Frank was often a source of wisdom and was never afraid to offer a loving word or help to those in need. Frank proudly served in his life, including Navy service during the Korean War, the Kentucky Poultry Federation, and as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Severns Valley Baptist Church. However, his most important service in this world was that to his late wife, Dorothea "Dot" Black. He selflessly cared for her for 11 years as she declined with a debilitating disease and he ensured she remained in their home for the rest of her life. Frank honored his marriage vows, calmly got his affairs in order, and passed away one year later. Let us continue to celebrate his life of devotion and love to his community, wife, and Christ. May we learn by his example and take his wisdom with us to honor his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothea "Dot" Black, his parents, Marion Neal and Mae Beatrice Black, and 5 siblings. He is survived by his loving children: Jennifer (Guthrie) True, Melinda (Tim) Patterson, Renee Black, Matt (Joanna) Black, his sister-in-law, Sandra Sparks, and his sister, Norma Hollis. He has 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The funeral is Monday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Pastor Emory Riley officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation begins after 10 a.m. Monday and continues until the time of the service at the funeral home.
