Rev. Rose Marie Jones

Pastor Rose Marie Sweazy Jones passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Louisville to Harold and Elizabeth Pearl Sweazy and was the youngest of five children. She was raised by her foster parents, Oce and Rose Lilly Pence in Summit. She was preceded in death by her parents; her foster parents; foster brother, Roman Pence and brothers, Harold Jr., Charles and James Sweazy and a sister, Delores Sweazy. She graduated from Spencerian Business College with a degree as a certified medical assistant and also a degree in Business. She worked in the medical field for 37 years including Hardin Memorial Hospital, Dr. Clyde Brassfield and retiring from Surgical Specialists in 2004. She was a lifelong member of Summit United Methodist Church and became a United Methodist Minister in 2000 and served in the ministry for 18 years. She served the Big Spring/High Plains charge and was at Howevalley U.M.C. her last 9 years. Her church families blessed her heart in so many ways. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Russell Lee Jones; son, Russell Brian (Tami) Jones of Elizabethtown; daughter, LeAnne (Chad) Pence of Stephensburg; granddaughter, Hannah Pence and grandson, Noah Pence both of Stephensburg; a niece, Debbie (Ted) Dietch; great nephew, Thomas Dietch all of Floyd Knobs, IN; nephew, Tony Sweazy of Taylorsville; step-grandson, Derrick (Kelly) Blevins; three step-great grandchildren, Weston, Adelynn and Madison all of Tennessee; three cousins, Pat Standifer, Barbara Totty and Debbie Smith and their families all of Texas and special lifelong friends, Forrest and Pat Nelson and Larry and Edith Link. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Don Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and continue after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude or Hosparus.
