Shirley Swain, 91, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. She was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Traverse City, Michigan, the daughter of Harold and Ruby Stables Ransom. She married her husband, Lester Swain, on Oct. 14, 1950, who preceded her in death April 24, 2014. She retired from the city of Dearborn, where she worked with senior citizens. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kayleen Johnson; a grandson, Mike Ferriter; and a son-in-law, Herbert "Pete" Frederick. Survivors include a son, James Swain and his wife, LuAnn, of Taylor, Michigan; two daughters, Judy Ferriter of South Bend, Indiana, and Terri Swain of Elizabethtown; 10 grandchildren, James Swain and Micah Swain and his wife, Jennifer, all of Taylor, Wesley Swain and his wife, Lori, of Brownstown, Michigan, Michelle Zimmer and her husband, Jon, of Elkhart, Indiana, Matt Ferriter of South Bend, Allison Hayost and her husband, Shawn, Warren Johnson, Stuart Johnson, Cody Frederick and Chloe Frederick, all of Elizabethtown; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jack Ransom and his wife, Celia, of Birmingham, Michigan, and Rodger Ransom and his wife, Carol, of East Jordan, Michigan. Cremation was chosen by the family. There will be a graveside service at a later date at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Traverse City. Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.
