Doris Mae Spencer Vertrees, 79, of Glendale, died Thursday, December 10, 2020 at her home. She was a native of Hardin County, a member of Hardin County First United Baptist Church and Upton Eastern Star. She loved camping, singing and listening to gospel music. She loved to make the Holidays special for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Albert Russell Spencer and Bessie Jane Sanders; and two half brothers, Kenneth Butler and Leon Butler and a half sister, Frances Nix. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rev. Freddie Vertrees; three children, Theresa (Craig) Smith of Glendale, Russell Dale (Karen) Vertrees of Bowling Green and Gary Lee Vertrees of Gulf Shores, AL; a half brother, Eugene Butler; five grandchilden and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hardin County First United Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Day officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. and continue after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The address of the church is 134 First Union Church Road, Elizabethtown.
