Elva Stone Underwood, 90, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, December 21, 2018 at her home. She was a native of Campbellsville, was an active member of Locust Grove Baptist Church prior to Valley Creek Baptist Church where she was recently an active member and was supportive of the pastors. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in Taylor County, taught for 16 years at Rineyville Elementary and 17 years Morningside Elementary. She retired after 33 years of teaching. She loved children and was a wonderful cook. She often cooked for those who helped on the farm and whom she considered family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer L. and Laura Colvin Stone; brother, George Stone; and sister, Lena Marjorie Stone. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wilburn R. Underwood; son, Brian (Teresa) Underwood of Elizabethtown; and two nieces, Ann Sullivan of Louisville and Abby Mings of Campbellsville. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Valley Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Kerr and Rev. Larry Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
