Ruth Byers Graves

Ruth Campbell Byers Graves, 92, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky passed away Friday, May 4, 2018. She was born in Monticello, Kentucky on June 29, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Graves; her parents, David C. and Flonnie Byers of Monticello; and her brother, David W. Byers of Louisville. She is survived by two sons, James F. (Alecia) Graves Jr. of Easley, South Carolina and David (Rebecca) Graves of Louisville; a daughter, Deborah (Denis) Steiner of Lexington; six grandchildren, James F. Graves III, Jordan Rudolph, Lauren Willoughby, Kristen Graves, Matthew Steiner, and Michael Cameron Steiner; and five great grandchildren. She was a retired teacher who taught in both the Wayne County and Hardin County School systems. She taught both music and in the classroom, retiring after 30 years from Lincoln Trail Elementary School. Mrs. Graves loved teaching both piano during her earlier years and her time in the classroom. She graduated from Georgetown College with a degree in music and Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in elementary education. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Georgetown College. She was a longtime member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. The funeral is Sunday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Emory Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
