Elmina Ruth Daugherty Chipps

Elmina Ruth Daugherty Chipps, was born 23 February 1932 in Vertrees, Kentucky. At the blessed age of 86 Elmina entered Heavens gates on 30 March, 2018. This mother of four led a life full of adventure, learning, and believing. She was an Army wife for many years traveling and living in many States. She also spent two military tours with her family in Germany. She loved the adventure of new places and made a home wherever she went. Elmina's favorite pastime was anything crafty, but first she was a master crocheter. She loved the natural beauty of stones and rocks. She learned lapidary work and made many pieces of her own jewelry. Later in life she joined the world of electronics. She loved finding things on the internet, being in chat rooms with people across the globe, and playing games on her ipad. She wanted to learn something new every day and constantly played word puzzles. Elmina had a giving and caring spirit. From an early age she wanted to be a nurse. She worked in the medical field many years as a nursing assistant. At the age of 57 she graduated with her degree in nursing, as an LPN, and worked the remainder of her career taking care of the elderly. She always had a fun and intriguing story to share about her life and travels. The people she met loved her spirit and her smile. She believed in our Lord Jesus Christ and knew she would be with him someday. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold D. Chipps, a grandson Dwane Chipps, her parents Simon and Iva Daugherty and 3 brothers, Samuel, Carroll and Charles Daugherty. Elmina is survived by her four children; Harold D. Chipps Jr. (Glenda), Deborah L. Warrington (Charles), Ester R. Griguhn (Phil), and Robert D. Chipps (Barbara). She also has 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She has 4 sisters, Edna Mae Krahn, Vera McNutt, Linda Daugherty, and Evelyn Palmer. The funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky with Rev. Shelby Haire officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Chapel Cemetery in Eastview, Kentucky. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
