Forrest Henson Sr.

Forrest Henson, 98, of Elizabethtown, passed away on February 7, 2017 at The Episcopal Church Home in Louisville, KY. Forrest was born on July 12, 1918 in Phil (Casey County), KY, and was the sixth of eleven children born to Henry Levi and Della Mae Holtzclaw Henson. Forrest grew up in Casey County, Kentucky, graduated from Casey County High School in 1936 and attended Berea College for two years. After college, he sold life insurance in North Carolina and worked as a welder in Savannah, Georgia shipbuilding industry during World War II. In 1945, Forrest went to work for Brown's Ice Cream Company in Elizabethtown and managed the operation of the ice cream plant for 34 years until it closed in 1979. He then sold life insurance until his retirement in 2008. Forrest was preceded in death in 1979 by his first wife, Virginia Edwards Henson, whom he married December 18, 1937. He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Lawrence Henson, Hollis Henson, Virl Henson, and Earl Henson and by three sisters: Mary Dick, Arlie Haggard, and Cloe Eads. Forrest is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Diane Henson whom he married January 17, 1982. He is also survived by his son, Forrest Henson, Jr. of Houston, TX, daughter, Sue Strange (W. Terry) of Louisville, KY, three sisters: Beulah Wolf of New Port Richey, FL, Mildred Coffey of Nicholasville, KY and Betty Lou Wheeler of Ashland, KY, five granddaughters: Jean Renee Allison, Toni Gail Darnall, Stephanie Lynn Fowlkes, Sara Elizabeth Strange, and Jennifer Henson Atchison, two great granddaughters, six great grandsons and one great, great granddaughter. Forrest was a member of the Elizabethtown Seventh Day Adventist Church. Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, KY is in charge of arrangements. The funeral will be Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Seventh Day Adventist Church, 215 N. Mantle Ave. Elizabethtown, KY with Pastor Jim McConnell officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park in Elizabethtown, KY. Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests that memorial donations in Forrest's name be made to The Episcopal Church Home 7504 Westport Rd.
