Catherine Mercer, 87, of Elizabethtown, was born in 1928 and passed away on August 6, 2015 in Louisville. The Hardin County native was a member of Cecilia Methodist Church and was a teacher in Hardin County schools for thirty years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Lee Mercer, by her parents Archie and Ella Mae Milburn Burkhead and a brother, Phillip Burkhead. She is survived by one son, Gerald D. (Lauretta) Mercer of Elizabethtown, one daughter, Lavonna (Cecil) Hawkins of Chicago, IL, two brothers, S. J. Burkhead and Hobert (Barbara) Burkhead both of Louisville, two sisters, Artie Hayes of Louisville and Donnie F. (Carl) Lindsey of Leitchfield, four grandchildren, Brent (Amanda)Mercer, Jeromy (Missi) Mercer, Michelle (Scott) Strong and Jeff (Mary Therese) Hawkins five great grandchildren, Katie, Cody, Dylan, Isabella and Travis and two step-grandchildren, Jenny (Todd) Abell and Brad (Lori) Yaste. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Don Sexton officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
