Richard E. Diehl

Richard E. Diehl, 81, of Elizabethtown, passed away Saturday, June 27, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Port Jervis, NY and later moved to Washington D.C. as a young boy. While he lived in D.C., he attended Catholic Elementary School and graduated from high school. He worked for the Army Map Service until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953. He served at various stateside Army posts until he was permanently assigned to Yokohama, Japan, where he worked as a Postal Specialist with the 7th Base Post Office. After his military service, he returned to the Army Map Service and was assigned to work as a specialist in the Civilian Personnel Office. Richard spent 1 year with the Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany and 5 years with the Army as the Civilian Personnel Officer in Frankfurt, Germany, before returning to the United States as the Civilian Personnel Officer at Ft. Knox, KY in 1981. Richard retired after 38 years of service with the Army. He owned and operated a business in the private sector for over 20 years after his retirement from Federal service. He was also a KY Colonel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Beverly F. Diehl and his parents, Kenneth E. and Emma Kosel Diehl. He is survived by one son, Christopher (Terri) Diehl of Cecilia and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Anna Diehl of Cecilia. There will be no services. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
