Marilyn Gail Johnston

Marilyn Waddell Johnston, 74 of Elizabethtown, was called peacefully from this life at her home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 with her family at her side. She was born in Hart County on January 8, 1949. A member of St. James Catholic Church, Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Marilyn graduated from Cub Run High School and Western Kentucky University with honors. As a junior high and high school teacher for more than thirty years, Marilyn was loved and highly respected by students, parents, and co-workers. Following retirement, she became extensively involved in creating a beautiful backyard flower garden. She prided herself in sharing that kaleidoscope of colorful blooms with extended family, friends, and neighbors. Marilyn was an organ donor. Marilyn is predeceased by her son, Jason; her parents Kermitt and Leonora Dennis Waddell; her brothers, Wendell and Mitchel; and her identical twin sister, Carolyn. She is survived by Wayland, her beloved husband of 52 years; two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica; four grandchildren, Julia, Madeline, Gemma, and Arlo; sister, Ada and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Visitation for Marilyn will be held Friday, June 9th from 4 to 8 p.m. EST with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and continue after 9 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A celebration of life Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, June 10th at 11:30 am EST Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a contribution to St. Vincent De Paul Society for those in need in Elizabethtown and Hardin County, or to the National Audubon Society to help preserve and protect the beauty of nature that brought Marilyn so much joy.
