Stanley L. Dulin, Col (Ret), USA Stanley L. Dulin, 78, a veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of Elizabethtown, KY, passed away into Gods graces on April 29, 2023, after a difficult battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Stan, as he is known to family and friends, was born on December 10, 1944, in Rockville Centre, NY, to Ben and Doris Dulin. He grew up in Louisville, KY. After graduating from Wagoner High School, he attended Murray State University where he served in the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). He graduated with a degree in History, Political Science and English. After a two-year courtship, Stan married Judy Carolyn Dawson on April 6, 1969, in Owensboro, KY. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together highlighted by many moves and broad travels. Stan called Judy his best friend, having eyes only for her. His love was constant; he always presented her with flowers on their children's birthdays. Stan is proudest of his two children and three grandchildren whom he shares with Judy. His son, Lt Col John Dulin, Ph.D., USAF, is married to Amy Gorze. He is currently in the USAF reserves and is a professor at the USAFA. John and Amy have two children, Cara Rae, who attends the University of Iowa and Joshua Ryan, who attends Oregon State University. His daughter, Jennifer Dulin, M.D., M.P.H, FAAHPM, is an attending physician at Tampa General Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She and her son, Thomas Matthew, were blessed to have lived with Stan and Judy during Stan's final months. Stan was an attentive father, deftly balancing family and career. He never missed a dance recital or ball game. He always made time for his children, coaching little league and teaching Sunday School. Aside from his family, Stan's greatest pride was in his service for his country; his greatest devotion was to the military and to his soldiers. After graduating from Murray State University in Murray, KY where he was in ROTC, Stan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army on May 29, 1967. He was commissioned as a Military Policy Officer detailed to the Infantry. Stan's first assignment was at Fort Benning, GA. From there he served as Platoon Leader and Executive Officer of the 2 nd Battalion of the 504 Infantry at Fort Bragg, NC and then as Platoon Leader of the 82 nd MP Company before being deployed to Vietnam. Stan was Company Commander of the 4 Infantry Division MP Company in Pleiku, Vietnam from July 1969 to July 1970. After returning from Vietnam, Stan had many tours both stateside and abroad. Notably, he was Provost Marshal at Fort Sill, OK; Battalion Commander at Yong San, South Korea; and Provost Marshal and Commander of Military Police Activity at Fort Knox, KY. After 26 years on active duty, he retired June 30, 1993, from Fort Knox, KY. The U.S. Army recognized Stan for his exemplary service with numerous awards. He is the proud recipient of the Army Achievement Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Air Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, two Bronze Star Medals for Service, a Bronze Star Medal with Valor, two Legion of Merit Medals and the St. Georges Medal. Stan was overwhelmingly humble. He neither boasted of his awards nor bragged of his successes. He served his country proudly. He was an advocate for his soldiers and always treated his subordinates with respect. Even in retirement, he continued to support numerous veteran groups and causes. Stan was stalwart in being a strong voice for his soldiers and for soldiers in general. He was a constant advocate for soldier recognition and benefits to the United States Congress. Following active-duty retirement, Stan continued his service to the Army and his country by starting the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Program at North Hardin High School in Radcliff, KY. He was the Senior Army Instructor from 1993 until 2006. After retiring from the School System, Stan was able to spend time with family and friends while honing his golf game. He enjoyed travel to Florida and to National Parks throughout the United States with his wife. Stan was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, KY. Stan is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren as well as his sisters Kay Sedler and Terri Mitchell along with countless friends. His family has organized a service to honor Stan's life and military service. Brown Funeral Home will host visitation from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday May 7, 2023, to be continued at Memorial United Methodist Church at 1pm on Monday May 8, 2023.
