William Lee Carter

William Lee Carter, 91, of Elizabethtown, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. He was an Elizabethtown High School graduate and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a successful contractor of many beautiful homes, churches, and bridges. He was the owner of Carter Construction. William Lee also was a founding member of New Hope Baptist Church in Elizabethtown. He provided many years of service at the church. William Lee was a very kind and generous man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a wonderful friend to many others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Betty Owens Carter and one son, Garland Lee Carter. William Lee is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Lois Mae Boyd Carter of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Joyce (James) Altsman of Rainbow City, AL and Janice (Ben) Propst of Smiths Station, Al; a daughter-in-law, Frances Carter of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren, Emily Carter West, Rebecca Carter James Altsman II, Elizabeth Altsman Cain, Polly Ann Propst Everritt, and Jana Leigh Propst Hugo ; and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
