Joseph Thomas Skees

JOSEPH THOMAS SKEES, 88, died Sunday, December 18, 2022 surrounded by his family at home. Thomas was born January 2, 1934, to Leon and Frances Skees of Harcourt, near White Mills, KY. Thomas was the oldest of 10 children and raised on the family farm in Harcourt. He attended Lynnvale School and graduated with 12 years of perfect attendance. Thomas was a Boy Scout, and he and his brother, Michael, saved a boy drowning in Nolin River. Thomas swam out to the boy first, and Michael brought the boy to shore safely. In later years, Thomas was named a Kentucky Colonel. Thomas worked for Walter Chelf, who owned Western Radio & TV in Elizabethtown, and learned the business of repairing console televisions and radios. He would later co-own and manage the business until it sold in the late 80s. When he wasnt working, Thomas maintained a beautiful yard and large garden. He enjoyed boating and camping at Rough River on the weekends, old cars, and traditional country music. He was an avid collector, loved to go places, and enjoyed eating at restaurants. But most of all, Thomas loved his wife and family, and his faith in God. Thomas was preceded in death by many loved ones, including his grandmother Frances Peerce, his mother and father, brothers Michael Skees and Eugene Skees, sisters Marcella Hill, Delores Barnett, Loretta Skees, and Regina Kennedy. Thomas is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda Lucas Skees, daughters Monica (David) Ruehling and Kim Russell; granddaughters Rachel Ruehling, Brittany Ruehling, Jessica (Jacob) Meredith, and grandson Jacob Farris; great-granddaughter Maci Meredith; sisters Nina Bohanon (Paul), Joetta Simpson, and Doretta Kerr (Ronnie); several brothers and sisters in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
