Lawrence Immanuel Wharton

Lawrence Immanuel Wharton, 74 of Sonora, died Friday, November 25, 2022 at Baptist Health Hardin. He was a native of Champaign, IL, a member and Deacon at Victory Life Church of God of Prophecy and retired from the U.S. Army, having served during Vietnam. He has been a volunteer firefighter since 1968 and rose to the rank of Chief. He was the Chief of Hardin County Search and Rescue for 5 years, Chaplain and member of the DAV Chapter 3 in Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Boyce and Mattie Pearl Powell Wharton; five brothers; four sisters and a grandson, Cory Wharton. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janet Louise Hanks Wharton; one son, William Michael (Jennifer) Wharton of Knoxville, TN; one daughter, Katrina Danyel Wharton of Knoxville, TN; one brother, James H. (Teresa) Wharton of Lexington; four grandchildren, Ahren, Ashton, Trenton and Hannah and a special niece, Ruby Grace Monroe. The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. at Victory Life Church of God of Prophecy. Burial with military and firefighters1125202211 honors will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.
