Carlos Leo Smith, Jr.

Carlos Leo Smith, Jr., 72 of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at his home with his family. He was a native of Sonora, served in the U.S. Army National Guard and retired from Fort Knox Civil Service. He worked hard and continued farming after retiring from his position in Fort Knox. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic cars, westerns, UK sports, and spending time with those he loved. He was truly a one in a million husband, Dad, and PopPop. He especially loved his grandpups and kept them entertained and laughing. He loved us selflessly and found joy in taking care of us. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos Leo Smith, Sr. and Bernice Meredith Smith. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kathy Osborne Smith; three children, Jeremy (Julie) Smith of Roswell, GA, Lauren (Ryan) Simms of Elizabethtown and Andrea (Derek) Ball of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Edsel (Linda) Smith and Kevin (Kim) Smith all of Sonora, Timmy (Tammy) Smith of Rineyville and Keith (Heather) Smith of Niantic, CT; eleven sisters, Janet (Francis) Simpson, Dotty (Mike) Fulks, Mona (Gene) Ray and Tammy (Steve) Ballard all of Elizabethtown, Doris (Delbert) Masterson of Sonora, Joanna Sherrard and Missy (Mike) Brown all of Cecilia, Patty Spear of Magnolia, Teresa Lynn of Louisville, Cindy (David) Gibson of Glendale and Sandy (Rob) Temple of Knoxville, TN and nine grandchildren, Keaton and Carson Simms, Addison, Parker, Isabella and Camden Smith and Logan, Mason and Brennan Ball. A Memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Father Ben Brown officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and continue after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
