Hildegarde Hager Buckles

Hildegarde Hager Buckles, 90 of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Willow Creek Assisted Living. She was born in Meade County October 6, 1932 to the late Charles E. and Mary E. Redmon Ray-Hager. She was a graduate of Flaherty High School in 1951. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she had been a Eucharistic Minister, door greeter, a member of the Altar Society, Bereavement Committee, choir, St. Vincent dePaul Society, the Welcoming Committee and Adult Education Committee. She was employed by the Federal Government from 1951 to her retirement in 1987. She had been a member of the Association of the Army (AUSA), Elizabethtown Business and Professional Womans Club, Glendale Homemakers, Hardin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and did volunteer work for the Heart Fund, March of Dimes, and the Arthritis Fund Drives. She volunteered at Hospice and Habitat for Humanity. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Buckles; seven brothers, John, Charles B., Bernard A., Joseph H., James, George and Ralph E. Hager; a half-brother, Woodrow Ray; three sisters, Helen Smith Klinglesmith, Frances Ling Evans, and Catherine; and a half-sister, Louise Ray Snider. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Buckles Johnson of Elizabethtown; a brother, Thaddeus "Pete" Hager; one grandson, Micah Roy (Allison) Johnson of Lexington; one granddaughter, Darcy Johnson of Richland, IN; and two great-grandsons, Eli Johnson and Wyatt Johnson. The funeral is at 11 am Saturday at Brown Funeral Home. Burial follows in Glendale Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 -11 am Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. Condolences may be expressed online at brownfuneral.com.
