Delano Fletcher Smith

Delano Fletcher Smith, 54 of Radcliff, died Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Baptist Health Hardin. He was a native of Flint, MI and retired from the U.S. Army. I could honestly write a book about how wonderful my husband was. How he has faithfully opened my doors for the last 13 years, taken the trash out so wonderfully that I rarely ever see trash in it (that has definitely changed) and moved every piece of furniture we have about a thousand times because I just did not like it there anymore. He was honest, desired to do exactly what God wanted and had the kind of Godly character rarely evidenced. He always shared his time with everyone he met. He read his Bible every day, he hugged us all every time we let him & he was never too busy for me. He would shut the television off, get off the phone or stop whatever he was doing to listen to me because he wanted me to know how very much he cared. I have never met anyone with such a heart, tenderness and love like he so freely gave to anyone willing to receive it. We laughed through "our life" so much that we never really felt like we were working. Laughter truly heals your heart and we had enough to heal many, many hearts. This was a great man who served his country, his family & me until the last breath he took. I will always find him in-the-laughter because that was his favorite place to be. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Robinson; his father, John Smith; and granddaughter, Gracelyn Isabelle Boggs. He is survived by Mama Evon; his wife, Melissa Lynette Smith; nine children, Delano F. Smith, Jr., Tasha (Kyle) Nowland, Crystal Denise DeVaughn, Krista Lewis, Sheena (Chris) Boggs, Jasmin (Jeremy) Knieriem, DeVelle (Anthony) Harley, Desirae Bendall, and Whitney Dejah Bendall; two brothers, Darryl (Sheila) Smith and Roderick (Ricky) Smith; a sister, Lisa J. Bullock, and a host of grandchildren. The funeral is Sunday, January 30th at 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Michael Fite officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 28th @ 11 a.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.
