Vera Joyce Davenport

Vera Joyce Davenport, 83 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, September 27, 2021 at Norton Hospital. She attended Stoval UMC for many years in Radcliff, Ky and most recently she has enjoyed watch Touching Lives with James Merrit on TV. She loved God with all her heart and always tried to live an upright life and help those in need. Her faith got her through many trials and these lessons in faith were passed down to her dearly loved family. As a young bride she worked at Delvin Electronics in New York. Later she worked in the public school system as a cook and then went on to serve the military meals that even Generals bragged on. She was a loving mother to her 2 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Davenport; her parents, Roy and Minnie Hixson; a brother, Lee Roy Hixson and two sisters, Wilma Johnson and Una Cravens. Survivors include two children, Charles Jeffrey (Debbie) Davenport and Kimberly Joyce Davenport; two brothers, Ronald Hixson and Byron Hixson; four grandchildren, Adam Wyatt Davenport, Amanda Sue Davenport, Bethany Breeze Davenport and Amanda Ann Arnold and nine great grandchildren, Reid Archer Burson, Amelia Reese Burson, Ayden, Aiden, Logan, Adam, Anders Davenport, Tessa Arnold, and Traa Arnold. Along with leaving family behind, she is leaving 2 very dear friends Olivia and Lorraine. She was able to travel the world and enjoy many joyous moments with them including meetings of The Secret Jewels. She is also leaving behind many friends at Wesley Hilltop whom she greatly enjoyed spending time with each week. The funeral will be Saturday at 12 noon at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Raleigh Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 to 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
