Hazel Vernell Childers Tapp, 94 passed peacefully Monday, May 10, 2021 at Atria Assisted Living. She was born in Louisville but lived in Hardin County from the time she was a small child. She considered Elizabethtown her home, where she raised her children. Hazel loved the time spent in the kitchen, cooking and sharing meals with her family and friends. She also loved her time shopping. When she entered, everyone knew her name at her favorite groceries and department stores. In her later years she enjoyed creating beautiful colored pictures with her caregivers as they talked together. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Lovell "L.K." Tapp; her parents, Ocie Earl and Hattie Jane Childers and three brothers, James Childers, Huey Childers and Bob Childers. She is survived by three sons, Thomas (Karen) Tapp and David (Terri) Tapp all of Elizabethtown and Steven Tapp of Florida; one daughter, DeVere (Roger) Lewis of Elizabethtown; one brother, Don Childers of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, Keith Tapp, Kevin Tapp, Michael Lewis, Nicholas Lewis and Megan Tapp; four great grandchildren, Katelynn, Ryan, Chad and Jazz. She is also survived by special caregivers Linda Wheatley, Doris Thompson and Sheila Pawley. A private service will be held at Hardin Memorial Park.
