Michael J. Nawrocki

Michael J. Nawrocki, 92, of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Signature North Hardin in Radcliff. Michael J. Nawrocki was born Bernard Jerome Nawrocki in Chicago, Il on October 26,1928, the first-born son of Kinga Tabernacki and Bernard Vincent Nawrocki. He is survived by one brother, Gerald Nawrocki (Patricia) of Visalia California; his daughters, Phyllis Williams (Bill) of Rineyville KY, Patti Culver (Peter) of Carrollton, TX and Carol Znider of Acworth, GA; one son, Stephen Nawrocki of Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Robert Michael Williams, William D. "Billy" Williams, Christopher S. Williams, Sarah Culver, Joshua Culver (Emily), Steven Nawrocki, Christina Leclerc (Pierre), Daniel Nawrocki (Laura), Jason Nawrocki, Raquel Creighton (Kelly), and Scott Ropp (Shawna); great grandchild Locke Leclerc and other great grandchildren and his niece, Rosalyn Lee de Castro. The oldest son, Michael D. Nawrocki predeceased him on February 17, 2019; his first wife, Mary Mercedes Rau (married from October 7, 1950 to 1969), died on April 11, 2011 and his second wife, Mary Celeste Stewart, died on August 5, 1995; an infant daughter, Marilyn A. Nawrocki and a sister, Delores Nawrocki. Mike and Mary Stewart ran a small motel called The River Inn in Three Rivers, California for many of their retirement years. After this portion of their lives, they participated in cat shows throughout the western USA and Canada and they owned many winners. When Mike moved to Kentucky in 2002, he still owned nine cats. Mike has lived in Elizabethtown since October 2003. Mike was a member of St. James Catholic Church and a child of God. He was an Army veteran who served in Korea and Germany during the Korean conflict. But he was most known for his passionate following of his beloved Chicago Cubs and secondarily of the Atlanta Braves. Mike attended Cubs games at Turner Field and Suntrust Park in Atlanta, Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Wrigley Field in Chicago and American Family Field in Milwaukee. Mike and his daughter, Phyllis made many trips to Atlanta and Cincinnati to see the Cubs play baseball over these last 20 years and he was thrilled when his Cubbies finally won the World Series in 2016. Mike's love for his family and his dry humor will be missed by those who loved him most. The family would like to thank Christie Hatfield Huffer for her friendship and great assistance during Mike's final illness. You are amazing! We would also like to thank his PCP, Dr. Syed Quadri and the staff at Central Medical Associates for the care and compassion shown to Mike and his family. Finally, we would like to thank everyone at Hosparus Health Central Kentucky for their assistance during Mike's final days. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.
