Amos "Leroy" Hazelip

Amos "Leroy Hazelip, 86, of Elizabethtown passed away at home on January 27, 2021. His bride of 64 years, Anna Blakely Hazelip, was by his bedside as he entered Heaven. Leroy was a faithful servant of the Lord impacting the lives of so many as he and Anna ministered to youth, single adults, young married couples and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ over the course of 60+ years at both Immanuel Baptist Church and Cecilia Baptist Church. He always had a smile, a hug, a handshake or a quick anecdote/joke for anyone he met. He never missed an opportunity to share God's love. He truly lived his faith by example every day. He was a Deacon both at Immanuel Baptist Church and Cecilia Baptist Church for many years. He lived to fulfill the Great Commission and was involved with several US and International mission trips and shared the gospel through nursing home ministry for many years. In addition to his Church, Leroy contributed to his community: a member and former officer of the Howevalley Alumni Association; project manager and mentor for Habitat for Humanity; a former member of the Elizabethtown Lions Club; an Eagle Scout and former Scout Leader with Boy Scouts of America; and a former member of the Howevalley FFA Chapter. He was also a member of the Jerry's Coffee Group where he enjoyed hot chocolate and the "Howevalley Monthly Breakfast Group". Leroy will forever be remembered as being a Prayer Warrior for so many. His daily prayer list was extensive but intimate. If he said, "I'm praying for you" you can be sure he was by name. In his early years, he worked for Hayes Burnett. He retired as Vice President of Kentucky Guard Rail Co, Inc. as well as owner/operator of A&L Home Repairs. He has retired from this earthly life to be rewarded with his forever home in Heaven where he'll be walking streets of gold. He was preceded in death by his father, Graham Hazelip; mother, Jewell Puckett Hazelip; brothers, Woodrow Hazelip and Herbert Hazelip; "adopted" daughter, Christine Campbell Pierce; and grandson, Wayne Hazelip. He is survived by daughter, Debby Duda (Dave); son, Alan Hazelip (Shelia); daughter, Donna Coursey (Jim); daughter, Susan Masters Huls (Jon) all of Hardin County; sister, Beatrice "Bea Hazelip O'Quinn of Virginia and sister, Dorothy "Dot" Hazelip Mentler of Ohio. He was also survived by 9 grandchildren: Jimmy Coursey (Maggie), April Coursey Bell, Kayla Hazelip, Sam Pierce (Alyssa), Cari Masters Slenker (Justin), Daniel Duda (Megan), Shelby Masters Fields (Michael), Dawn Duda Humfleet (Chris), and Megan Masters and 11 great grandchildren: Aiden Bell, Owen Coursey, McKayla Lyttle, Wyland Bell, Isabella Slenker, Daisy Masters, Claire Coursey, Lileigh Pierce, Savannah Fields, Abigail Pierce, and James Duda. He was loved by many nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of "adopted" children, not by birth but by love. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2021 at Cecilia Baptist Church, Cecilia, KY. Interment will follow in the Glendale Church Cemetery, Glendale, KY. Visitation will take place from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2021 and continues after 10 a.m. Monday at Cecilia Baptist Church.
