Ruby Ellen Chapman

Ruby Ellen Chapman (95) passed peacefully in her home, to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, January 14, 2021. She was born October 20, 1925 in Horse Cave, KY. Ruby was the oldest of six children. She was proceeded in death by her husband-Maurice Chapman, her parents-Roxie and Bud Melton, and siblings-Dorthy Lyman and Bobby Melton.She is survived by her three daughters-Joan Slusher, Ft Myers, FL (Bobby); Marilyn Maffet, Elizabethtown, KY (Buster) and Margueritte Edelen, Bardstown, KY (Sam).Seven grandchildren-Angela Chambers, Kris Maffet (Robyn), Craig Maffet (Kim), Carrie Maffet (Bobby), and Tiffany Farrar (Ben), Amber NeCamp (Rick) and Todd Edelen (Samantha). She is also survived, by her siblings; Thelma Williams-Glasgow, KY, Louise Craine-Cave City, KY and Calvin Melton-Glasgow, KY. She adored her nine great grandchildren-Jackson Beam, Kate Maffet, Logan Stanley, Addison and Gunnar NeCamp and Mallory, Lucas, Paige and Roman Edelen. Ruby was a devoted member and servant of Severns Valley Baptist Church for 67 years. She was known to be in the front and center pew, every Sunday. She had an impeccable work ethic, she was a lunch lady at the Morningside Elementary cafeteria, worked at the Watkins Jewelers in downtown Etown, and for 24 years worked at the Hardin County Clerk's Office, until she was 74. As a member of America's 'Greatest Generation', Mrs. Ruby; as she was known to most; learned to be resourceful. She could make any guest feel welcome with her warm, hostess smile. She could marvel Martha Stewart with her skills as a self-taught cook and talented seamstress. She enjoyed giving of her talents; crocheting, cooking, and rarely forgetting a birthday. She supported our troops during WWII in the factories as a 'Rosie the Riveter' and was most proud of raising three daughters, she called her Angels, whom all graduated from college, after she and her husband had to quit school at a young age, to raise their brothers and sisters. Ruby Ellen was one of a kind and we were blessed to have her for 95 years. Thank you for helping us celebrate Ruby's life. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Compton officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
