Mary Maurice Utley, 83, died at her Elizabethtown home on Monday, December 24, 2018 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary H. and James Maurice Utley. Miss Utley is survived by several beloved cousins, including Charles Robert Groves, Sr. of Portland, TN, by numerous dear friends and by her devoted friend and caregiver Wanda Suttles. Miss Utley attended college at Western Kentucky where she earned bachelor's and master's degrees. While at Western, she was an active member of Western Players. A native of Tennessee, Miss Utley came to Kentucky in 1957 to teach English and literature, first at Buffalo High School and later at Larue County High School. In 1964, she began work at Elizabethtown Community College where she taught speech, composition and American Literature, and later became director of the Learning Resources Center which included the library. Cremation was chosen. Details of a celebration of Miss Utley's life will be announced at a later date.
