Mary Jo Patrick Barry

Mary Jo Patrick Barry, 82, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, November 19, 2018 at Norton's Pavillion in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church where she served the Lord for many years as a beloved Sunday school teacher. She was a candy striper at Hardin Memorial Hospital, and she wrote articles for the News Enterprise. She was elected Elizabethtown Jr. Women's Club "Woman of the Year" in 1970, and was the first elected president for Airsok. She worked many years for Dr. Wright and later with Bennett and Bloom Eye Center. She loved her family and friends, her bridge group, and playing cards on the weekends with family. She spent her later years raising children in her daycare and was known as Granny to Loren, Alex, Molly, Mason, Sam, and Lauren. She had a passion for crochet, knitting, needlepoint, sudoku, growing her lemon and limes trees, and was well known in the community for her fabulous meals, recipes, and cooking skills. Last of all, she loved her sweet poodle, Sophie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Willard "Buddy" Barry; her parents, Guy Patrick and Rebecca Hobbs Patrick; two brothers, James Leslie Patrick and John Henry Patrick; and a sister, Anna Frances Patrick Bush. She is survived by four children, James Patrick Barry, Deborah Allen, Kathie (Martin) Noel, and Ron (Linda) Barry; seven grandchildren, John Despain, Amanda (Jarrett) Kirkpatrick, Beth (Robby) Tinnell, Rebecca Barry, Jennifer Barry, Chris (Shawn) Parker, and Michael (Celeste) Barry; and thirteen great grandchildren, Mitchell Tinnell, Isaiah Parker, Devin White, Andrew Toogood, Shelly Toogood, Paityn Tinnell, Lexi Despain, Isabella Parker, Preston Kirkpatrick, Ian Kirkpatrick, Madisyn Tinnell, Audrey Barry, and Brandt Barry. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Severns Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home and will continue at 12 p.m. Saturday at the church. Mary Jo fought a long 8 year battle with cancer so expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Severns Valley Baptist Church building fund.
