Walter D. "Dee" Huddleston

Former U.S. Senator Walter D. "Dee" Huddleston, 92, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018. He was born in Burkesville, KY and served in the United States Army during WWII, where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a radio station manager from 1949-1972, and a former chairman of First Financial Service Corp. He was in the Kentucky Senate from 1966-1972 and a U.S. Senator from 1973-1985. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean Pearce Huddleston; parents, Walter F. and Lottie Russell Huddleston; sister, Virginia VanZant; and brothers, Paul R., Earl M., Charles, and Harold K. Huddleston. He is survived by two sons, Stephen Huddleston of Warsaw, KY, and Philip Dee (Sandy) Huddleston of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Dimple Duerr of Louisville, Martha Jane Huddleston of Bowling Green, and Mary Helen Miller of Shelbyville; and three granddaughters, Katherine (Josh) Berkley, Caroline (Josh) McMinn and Tammy Milton. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Caleb Wheat officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown City Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home and will continue after 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial United Methodist Church.
