Phillip Jay Stafford

Phillip Jay Stafford, 74, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his home. He was a native of Huntington, West Virginia, a member of First Christian Church, a graduate of the EHS class of 1962, and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a former cook at Holiday Inn South, sold Chrysler boats for Swope, and worked for the Highway Department where he was on a crew that surveyed the Western Kentucky Parkway. He was a retired telephone engineer for GTE and Verizon and was a partner in RTE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse B. and Pauline M. Henry Stafford; and grandson, John Wesley Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen Stafford; daughter, Danna (Craig) Monroe of Elizabethtown; granddaughter, Jessica Monroe of Elizabethown; sisters-in-law, Jean Houston of Elizabethown and Janie (Dave) Williams of Lexington; brother-in-law, Tom Vetter of Clearwater, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be Thursday from 4-9 pm at Danna's home at 309 Red Bud Dr., Elizabethtown with a Eulogy service starting at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
