Gus Velez, 58, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Uof L Hospital. He was a native of Brooklyn, New York, and a member of Ladies Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher. He served in the United States Army, retired as regional manager of Fed Ex after 19 years of service and was currently employed as the freight supervisor at LSG at Fort Knox. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustavo Velez and Rosa Perez; and a brother, Robert Velez. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte McAfee Velez; daughter, Valerie Barthold Weld (Richard) of Morgan Hill, California; sister, Jenny Velez (Juan Pichardo) of Brooklyn, NY; cousins, Henry and Kitty Betancourt; brother-in-law, Kenneth McAfee (Lillie); sister-in-law, Nancy Puryear (Leslie); a host of nieces, nephews and friends; and his beloved pets, Daisy and Sparky. The funeral is Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Garnett Davis and Bro. Garry Wayne Polston officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and continues after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Reception to follow burial from 1:30-4 p.m. at Pritchard Community Center, Mulberry Room, 404 S.
