Clifford Bowen

Clifford R. Bowen, 82, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at his home. He was a native of Grayson County and retired from the Elizabethtown Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for 34 years. He was the first paid Fire Chief for the city of Elizabethtown and organized the first paid department in town. Before joining the fire department, he was a police officer. From the mid 60's to early 70's, he and his wife ran the MRC building where the youth would hang out. He loved spending his time fishing, gardening, and being with his family. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Bowen, Louise Smith Mefford, and stepfather, Owen Mefford. Clifford is survived by his wife, Patricia Bowen of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Kim (Willie) Wood of Elizabethtown; a son, Greg (Susan) Bowen of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren, Tiffany (Wade) Barnes, Jason (Leslie) Bowen, Todd Wood, and Jessica (Alan) Hendricks; and six great grandchildren, Dylan, Lilian, Gavin, Lucas, Gage, and Ryder. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Bro. Chris Kiger officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and continues after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
