Thomas John Novak

Retired Lt. Col. Thomas John Novak, 67, of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, he grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University at which time he joined the U.S. Army. He completed several tours in Germany and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He served with the special forces and was a member of the green berets where he enjoyed parachuting with fellow comrades. He attended Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he learned to speak fluent German. Upon retirement from the Army with the rank of Leiutenant Colonel, he moved to Elizabethtown in 1992. Tom was active in serving the Lord and was devoted to his wife, Patsy of 7 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Novak and her two children, Chris (Nikole), and Brian (Wiebke) Kilbert, and his two daughters, Amanda and Emily Novak; his sister, Christine Packer; niece, Karen Packer; three nephews, Tom Packer, Larry Edwards and Jimmy Edwards; and three grandchildren, Lakyn, Layna, and Renee Kilbert. The funeral is at 4 p.m. Monday, February 12, at Crossroads Baptist Church on Poplar Street in Elizabethtown. Burial is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. Monday, February 12, at the church. Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
