Melvin Russell Loveday

CSM (Ret) Melvin Russell Loveday, 75, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at his home. He was a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, retired from the United States Army in 1986 where he served one tour in Vietnam, one tour in Korea, and served in Germany where he met and married his wife. After the Army he retired from Fort Knox Civil Service and was the owner of Mel's Kentucky Crafts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion Post #113, Legionaire, and the Optimist Club. He loved his wood work shop, gardening, and vacationing at the beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Loveday Sr. and Charlsie Asher Loveday; and two brothers, J.B. Loveday and Dennis Loveday. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hildegard M. Loveday; children, Susan C. Loveday of Cornelius, North Carolina, Patricia C. Sego (Ben), and Russell Loveday all of Glendale; four siblings, Paul Loveday Jr. of Minnesota, Barbara Passink of Chattanooga, Tim Loveday, and Patricia Loveday both of Knoxville; two half siblings, Robert Key (June) and Carol Cullum all of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Amber N. Loveday, Dwaine K. Loveday, Raven E. Loveday, Robert T. Sego, and Ellen P. Sego; one great grandchild, Ryley N. Loveday-Bourgeois; and cousin, William Loveday of Knoxville. There will be a graveside service held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday and continues after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
