Mary Edna Woodring Hazle, 80, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. Mary was born July 27, 1937 to Luther and Mary Long Woodring. She graduated from Howevalley High School, class of 1955, Bowling Green College of Commerce (Business University) with a BS degree and Western Kentucky with a Masters and Rank I degree. She taught in the Business Department at Elizabethtown High School from 1977 to 1997. After making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, Mary was baptized at the age of nine in a creek near Cecilia Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School at Cecilia Baptist Church and Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hazle, a daughter, Rebecca Gerkins, one sister, Nellie Woodring, four brothers, George Woodring, Roscoe Woodring, Paul Woodring, Denver Woodring and her parents. Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Kathy) Hazle of Cox's Creek and Mark (Rhonda) Hazle of Gaffney, SC, one daughter, Martha (Bert) Fersner of Summerville, SC, a son-in-law, Doug Gerkins of Buck Grove, one sister, Violet Monroe of Cecilia, eight grandsons and four granddaughters. There will be a Memorial Service at Brown Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
