Doris Elizabeth McGary Taylor

Doris Elizabeth McGary Taylor, 85, formerly of Elizabethtown, KY., died peacefully at her home at Sunrise of Buckhead in Atlanta, GA on Thursday July 13, 2017. She was the widow of James (Jim) Trabue Taylor, owner of Taylor Insurance and a native of Elizabethtown. They met on a blind date at a homecoming football game at the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of Tri-Delta Sorority and awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. They married in 1955. Ms. Taylor was a devout Catholic and a member of St James Catholic Church of Elizabethtown where she served on numerous committees, particularly those associated with decorating the church for holiday celebrations. She taught art at Elizabethtown Catholic High School and the local college as well as served the community in various roles associated with art. Her mural of historic downtown Elizabethtown hung in the Visitor’s Center for many years. She was also active in the Elizabethtown Country Club, The Garden Club of Elizabethtown and Greenspace and co-owned a fabric store in Elizabethtown for a number of years. But most importantly she was wife, mother and grandmother (“Wella”) in a loving family where she organized birthday parties, holidays, vacations, art, museums, sports teams, church, golf, a horse, 4-H, scouts and every day love, education and fun. Ms. Taylor is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Jane McGary, of Madisonville, KY, and her husband Jim Taylor. She is survived by her children Elizabeth (Beth) Anne Taylor of Atlanta, GA, Janee Taylor Dennison of Tampa, FL, and Robert (Bob) James Taylor (Debbie) of Indianapolis, IN, and grandchildren Erica Nicole Dennison, Taylor Rossten Dennison, Ronald Farrow Taylor and Robert James Taylor, Jr. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and continues after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home.
