Joseph Arnold Riney, 76, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Kindred Healthcare in Corydon, Indiana. He was a native of Hardin County, a 1958 graduate of Rineyville High School, a 1982 graduate of the Univesity of Lousiville Kent School of Social Work, and a retired social worker for the state of Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Arnold and Gladys Smith Riney; two brothers, James Earl Riney and William Rondal Riney; and a step daughter, Sherry Webb. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Riney; three sons, Jeffrey (Shannon) Riney of Elizabethtown, Bryan (Cindy) Riney of Elizabethtown, and Steven Riney of Bardstown; one daughter, Teresa (Mark) Harris; three brothers, Charles (Pat) Riney of Elizabethtown, David (Theresa) Riney of Rineyville, and Danny (Starlet) Riney of Radcliff; two sisters, Alice (Bill) Gunning of Hodgenville and Mary (Doug) Widener of Benton, KY; eight grandchildren, Allison Riney Lane, Lauren Riney, Josh Riney, Ryan Harris, Ben Harris, George Riney, Evyn Riney, and Layne Riney; one step son, Gary George of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two cousins, Wendell Smith and Joyce Smith Mussey; and one step grandson. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Lincoln officiating. Burial follows at St. John Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and continues after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association.
