SWINEY, Carol Jane (Johnson) - passed away Thursday at her residence in Elizabethtown following a long battle with lung disease. Carol was born on November 2, 1937, in Richardson, KY, grew up in Pikeville, KY before moving to Elizabethtown in 1965. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donald Kee Swiney and her parents, Ernest Langley Johnson and Mary Charlotte (Hinkle) Johnson. Carol is survived by her four children, Sara (Tom) Mueller of Knoxville, TN, Charlie (Jennifer) Swiney of Glasgow, KY, David (Michele) Swiney and Donnie (Davette) Swiney, both of Elizabethtown. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Rachel (Seth) Fulton of Knoxville, TN, John (Meg) Mueller of Murfreesboro, TN, Rebecca Mueller of Knoxville, TN, Elizabeth Swiney and Emily Swiney, both of Bowling Green, KY, Brittany Swiney, Kristen Swiney, Reiss Baxter and Jade Swiney, all of Elizabethtown. Carol took care of Elizabethtown's youngest and newest residents as a nurse at the "Birthplace" of Hardin Memorial Hospital for 23 years before retiring in 2004. She was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethtown. Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and continues after 10 a.m on Monday before the memorial service at 12 noon. Interment will be at Hardin Memorial Park on North Miles Street immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church of Elizabethtown, to Hosparus of Central Kentucky or to the American Lung Association.
